Emmylou Harris - Hard Times Come Again No More
 Άλλη μία επιρροή που αναφέρει ο Tom Waits είναι ο Stephen Foster (1826-1864), συνθέτης και στιχουργός, γνωστός και ως ο "πατέρας της Αμερικάνικης μουσικής".
Θα ξέρετε το τραγούδι του "Oh Suzanna" σίγουρα...
 Εδώ το τραγούδι Hard Times Come Again No More (1854) από την Emmylou Harris.
 Σύμφωνα με το wikipedia, η πρώτη ηχογράφηση του τραγουδιού έγινε το 1905 σε κύλινδρο από κερί από την Edison Company.
