From "The Explorer's Hold" ep (1984, Coyote records).
Playing moody, psychedelic-influenced folk-rock with a distinctive instrumental pallete, the Trypes are often thought of as a side project of the Feelies, due to the participation of several key members of that band. However, the Trypes were a functioning unit before Feelies leaders Glenn Mercer and Bill Million joined the group. The Trypes were formed in 1982 by John Baumgartner on keyboards, Toni Paruta on woodwinds, Marc Francia on guitar, Brenda Sauter on bass and Elbrus Kelemet on lead vocals. The Trypes hailed from Haledon, New Jersey, which was also home to Glenn Mercer and Bill Million, who had put the Feelies on hiatus after touring in support of their debut album. Mercer and Million championed the Trypes and began working with the band; they became a six piece with the addition of drummer Stanley Demeski and the departure of vocalist Kelemet.
Taken from the album "Harum Scarum". The video was directed by the Archie Bronson Outfit. Gideon dreams stories and sings. His sister Viva, a.k.a. 'The Shark', plonks, stomps and honks. Formerly members of Bikini Atoll, they released two albums on Bella Union, second album recorded by geeky genius Steve Albini. Then, they formed a family band and spent summer 06' getting drunk in a barn writing songs on their 8 track recorder... Here's what "Drowned In Sound" has to say about them: "How to describe London-based duo Joe Gideon and The Shark without you being in the same room as me… it’s tough, for sure. Without waving hands and pulling shapes it’s tough to convey what this music can –and usually does– do to a body exposed to it; it’s rough, ragged, blues in its veins. It’s dark, atmospheric, oddball and surreal; it’s on your doorstep and in your airspace, alien yet talking the same language about the same ol’ trials and tribulations of a life lived. Uppers and downers: expected and accepted..."

Yard Trauma were one of the leading revival bands of the 1980s. Yard Trauma were formed in Tucson (Arizona) by singer-guitarist Joe Dodge and bassist Lee Joseph, who had been playing in the Johnny Seven. The cassette Reptile House (1983), the single Some People (Iconoclast, 1983), and the mini-album Yard Trauma (Bonafide, 1984) introduced an enthusiastic gang enamored of the Seeds, the Strawberry Alarm Clock, etc (plus Lance Kaufman's Farfisa organ). The album Must've Been Something (Dionysus, 1985) is a classic of the genre, overflowing with catchy refrains and driving rhythms (Situations, I've Seen You Walking, You're My Style, You Don't Tell Me). No Conclusions (Lolita, 1986) is a compilation. Music (LDS, 1986) collects singles, rarities and unreleased tracks. In 1986 Lee Joseph left Yard Trauma to join the Unclaimed.
