From Acrobats lp (2011, Yep Roc Records)... "Perhaps wisely jumping ship before the whole nu-folk scene becomes even more ubiquitous, Brighton trio Peggy Sue go electric for their second album, Acrobats - a rather radical change in direction which sees them join the likes of Warpaint on the quest to revive early '90s riot grrrl grunge. There are still traces of the acoustic indie-folk sound they pursued on 2010's Fossils and Other Phantoms, but for the most part, PJ Harvey producer John Parrish helps to create a rather unsettling and suspense-ridden, lo-fi atmosphere which recalls the likes of Throwing Muses and Sleater-Kinney more than the Marlings and Mumfords they were previously compared to. Indeed, Acrobats will simply be too dour for some, but while Peggy Sue's drastic musical overhaul doesn't always convince, it's an admirably brave effort which possesses enough quality to make it worth the occasional test of endurance". As the mastermind behind Dufus, possibly the most creative and well-loved underground band in the anti-folk/freakfolk communities of New York City, with a likewise respected solo career, stacking up more than ten albums and playing in over 20 countries with such acts as The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Jeffrey Lewis, Regina Spektor, The Moldy Peaches, Animal Collective and others, Seth’s music remains a wonder to the listenful. Keeping in tune with the warm and weird legacy of his renowned former project, Seth continues to stretch the boundaries of musical experience with craze and care unmatched by the contemporaries with whom his style has been compared (including Frank Zappa, Deerhoof, Devendra Banhart, The Moldy Peaches and The Dirty Projectors), with an increasingly honed wisdom and intimacy.
